The Sunday Paper: DP x NRL

Growing up in Sydney, Australia, I had aspirations to be a professional rugby league player from a young age. I dedicated myself to that dream day and night and wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps. But life takes a turn and you make some decisions, and at 20 I decided to cut my own path and dive headfirst into a new career that was unknown to me but something I had a passion for, which is fashion. Taking all that hard work and dedication and channeling it in a new direction was an exciting challenge and proposition to me and one I feel aligned with my purpose in life. I do not regret that decision for a minute.

With fashion, I have been able to live out some of my childhood dreams. With the likes of having my own line with adidas to living in America and becoming an American citizen, these are just a couple of highlights. And I like that my fashion journey has come full circle and organically incorporated my love for sport and my upbringing, in terms of dressing so many athletes. I feel like that is our niche for sure, and when you find your niche, you lean into it.

Even more exciting for me was the fact that one of my favourite sports in the NRL and Rugby League has decided to venture into the US market, and I thought I was the perfect person to collaborate with them. Having grown up in Australia playing Rugby League and being around the game from a young age and cutting my teeth here in the US as a designer dressing a lot of the top athletes, it just made perfect sense. So as we draw closer to the NRL launch here in America next week, I am excited to announce yet another full circle moment in our collaboration with the NRL. I still have a lot of affinity for the game and my country of birth, Australia, and it is great to be able to bring a creative vision to life. I hope it is the start of bigger and better things to come, as the NRL embarks on their 5-year plan to bring the game to the American audience. I’m here for it, and here to help where I can!
