The Sunday Paper: Back To My Roots

A nice trip home for Spring Break with the family coupled with a heavy dose of Aussie food and coffee was exactly what the doctor ordered. The more time I spend away from home (Sydney, Australia) the more I admire its beauty and remember the days growing up there. Life was pretty much centered around sports and the beach, and I guess you can see that influence in the clothes we make today. The laid back lifestyle and beach culture are something I love about home. And I’ve still yet to experience an Aussie summer since I moved to the states some 12 years ago, but I can see one on the horizon soon.

One thing I enjoyed about the trip was seeing my son take to the sport I grew up playing and loving: Rugby League. Now he is all into it, and we are forging an even closer bond around the game. I grew up with a dream to play professional Rugby League, and I took a turn at the age of 20 to pursue my passion for fashion and my desire to live in America. I don’t regret this for a minute. It’s what has made me the man I am today and also funnily enough given me the ability to have these full circle moments like we did in Las Vegas and like we did in Sydney being on the field and in the locker room amongst the players. In some ways I wish I kept going, but in other ways I am happy with the path I chose. I wanted to blaze my own trail, and I feel that sense of purpose within myself to do so. Footy will always be in the blood and I think the game itself is stronger than ever, and I would love to stay connected to it and contribute to it in any way I can. As for Sydney, I look forward to our next adventure back home!
